shoot like a pro during lockdown

Social distancing has resulted in millions of people turning to MS Teams, Skype, Zoom and other video calling solutions to connect with their colleagues, friends and families.
This is how you can film like a pro from home.
Tip 1 - Eye level
Make sure the camera of your laptop or webcam is at eye level. You don’t want to be hunched over a laptop of looking up to a webcam. Either adjust your chair, with extra cushions or elevate the camera with a pile of books or a box to get the right height.
Tip 2 - Silhouettes
Don’t go into the light! Sorry couldn’t resist. Seriously though, don’t shoot with a window behind you - it is likely that it is much brighter outside than in and you will be silhouetted. Reposition the camera so that it faces in the direction of the light not towards it.
Tip 3 - Lighting
If you want more control of the lighting, don’t be afraid to experiment with lamps that you have around the home. The more diffuse the better, try positioning them at 45 degrees in front of you. A computer or laptop screen displaying white can be used as a diffuse light, just open a blank text document and maximise it.
Tip 4 - Surroundings
Consider what’s behind you. Webcams tend to keep everything in focus so your background will be as clear as you are. Try to create separation between yourself and the background. Try to avoid busy backgrounds with sharp angles and contrasting light, if in doubt opt for a plain wall. Go for airy spaces and sit as far from the background as possible.
Tip 5 - Noise
Eliminate noise. Turn off that TV or music, shut the windows and doors, lock the kids in the cupboard. You don’t want to be disturbed!
Tip 6 - Quality
While most modern laptops and webcams offer an acceptable picture and sound quality you can always upgrade. There are lots peripherals to enhance sound and vision, spending £100 should get you something halfway decent.
Tip 7 - Look at the camera
You are addressing other people, so look at them. It may seem strange looking at the camera but for the viewer it is much more engaging. Also remember to be at your best, tits and teeth darlings.
