Internal conference for c.700 senior managers in manufacturing sector. ‘Being Premier’ was a one day interactive event held at The Ricoh Arena, Coventry.
To bring together a group of senior managers across more than 12 of the biggest businesses in the group. To encourage networking, interactivity, share best practice and develop a stronger ‘team’ approach.
The E-on Lounge in the Ricoh Arena overlooking the Coventry City football pitch was chosen as the main plenary area for this high level corporate event. The previous evening saw Coventry playing a key league game and delegates were given the option to attend as part of the conference programme.
The main plenary was a cabaret style interactive morning session which introduced delegates to each other, shared the future strategy and asked delegates to work on a table top strategy task to bring to life the company objectives.
At lunchtime, a buffet was served around a ‘showcase’ of products and expertise around the business.
The afternoon was totally interactive with the audience being split into three groups and rotating around three working sessions.
After a fun finale and close, the delegates departed with full communication packs of the day in order to share and cascade the key messages and actions to their own teams.

Delegates arrived to a welcome breakfast and refreshments made with their own products that would feature throughout the day. Promotions and stands around the area showcased those products and experts were present to share key information, selling points and facts and figures.
After a hearty welcome, delegates were seated cabaret style and an interactive plenary started with a video which provided a whistle stop tour of the history of the company and concluded with a current look at why the delegates should celebrate ‘Being Premier’ – our theme of the day.
Following the welcome and strategy of the day, delegates were quickly working on the part they would be playing by completing a strategic navigation game (Strat Nav™) in their table teams. By sharing best practice and understanding the ambition, delegates own strategy on moving forward was presented back to the room.
To build on this though, all teams had to be like minded and be aiming in one direction, not an easy task when the businesses were at different stages of the strategy. A fun drumming exercise soon taught them that anything is possible if they put their minds to it and part two of the strategy exercise began with a better sense of community and ‘team’ working.
To help the focus of the day, the showcase of products and a closer look at consumer activity were also shared in breakout sessions and the day concluded with a positive and team attitude to the next phase of their success.
An operating committee were put together to work on the design of the conference including the strategic navigation game. This helped build the event agenda, pin point areas that needed working on and develop the working patterns of the day. The predicted outcome would also generate work by this team and it was agreed that a post event website was required to build on this.
Delegates were invited by email internally and delegate lists were created for the operating team.
Delegates collected badges on arrival which indicated which table they were allocated to and which breakout group they would be in.
Throughout, the Events Management Team oversaw the team activities and recorded the outcomes and feedback.
After the event a comprehensive post event website was created to include all conference materials and a feedback form. This information and data was used for onward cascade and communication.
The event was deemed as ‘the best so far’. Everyone enjoyed the format of the day and felt very much a part of the communication process. The post event website and feedback had a superb effect and more people completed the feedback form than in previous years. The presenters enjoyed the event production process and were well prepared for the success of the day. The event exceeded the client’s expectations and this was celebrated with cake of course!
